JGI works to protect chimpanzees, great apes, and other primates (in Africa and elsewhere) by funding sanctuaries, fighting illegal trafficking, and educating the public
Dr. Jane Goodall discovered that when we put local communities at the heart of conservation, we improve the lives of people, animals and the environment. JGI advances Dr. Goodall’s holistic approach through a tapestry of nine strategies that build on each other and bring the power of community-centered conservation to life.
CONSERVATION SCIENCE
We use the latest scientific discoveries and technologies to solve some of the world’s toughest conservation challenges. This knowledge and these tools enable us to monitor habitat health, human impacts, and map distribution of chimpanzees and other great apes to inform conservation actions and management decisions.
ADVOCACY
When Jane Goodall speaks, people listen. We use our voice as an organization to speak up on the issues that matter for the long-term well-being of humans, other animals and the planet we all share.
PROTECTING CHIMPANZEES & OTHER GREAT APES
At Tchimpounga Sanctuary in the Republic of Congo and in areas across Tanzania, Uganda, DRC and Congo, JGI works to protect chimpanzees and other great apes against disease transmission, illegal hunting and poaching, and human-wildlife conflict.
Wiki
Jane Goodall Institute
The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) is a global wildlife and environment conservation organization headquartered in Vienna, Virginia. It was founded in 1977 by English primatologistJane Goodall.[1]
The institute has offices in more than twenty-five countries around the world.[2]
JGI works to protect chimpanzees and other primates by supporting sanctuaries, law enforcement efforts to reduce illegal trafficking, and public education to protect endangered species in the wild.[3]
Improving Gender and Health Outcomes
JGI achieves this through community-centered health projects, improvements to water supplies, and programs designed to keep girls in school.[4]
Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods
JGI does this through improved agricultural practices, community-managed microcredit programs, and sustainable production techniques that increase incomes while protecting forests[5] and watersheds.[6]
