EAT

One in six kids in the United States, and one in four kids in the Bay Area, is affected by hunger. To compound the problem, families struggling with poverty often rely on fast food that lacks nutritional value, further contributing to our obesity epidemic. Both hunger and obesity take a profound toll on kids’ health, happiness and ability to be successful in the classroom. When kids get the nutritious food they need, they feel better, learn more and grow up stronger.

We work to ensure that every child has the nutritious food they need to thrive every day. Our multi-pronged approach includes programs that directly feed kids and families
There’s an enormous education achievement gap in students from low-income communities and their middle-and-upper class peers that has lifelong, negative ramifications for children growing up in poverty. For many of these kids, they fall behind in key reading and math indicators before they even enter kindergarten.

LEARN

There’s an enormous education achievement gap in students from low-income communities and their middle-and-upper class peers that has lifelong, negative ramifications for children growing up in poverty.

A majority of our work focuses on programs that keep students on paths to achieve a college degree because national research demonstrates that this is the most powerful way for low-income and first-generation students to achieve upward social mobility.

PLAY

There is a powerful, positive connection between participation in youth sports and good character development, better health, higher self-esteem and academic success. However, only 1 in 4 kids in the US are getting the recommended daily amount of physical activity.

By working with partners across the United States we are leading projects for new playgrounds, sport courts; and other recreational facilities for kids and families to congregate for physical activity. struggling with food insecurity and educate families on the importance and ease of consuming nutritious foods.
